Jimmy gorecki biography

I wonder if kids still see through whatever way a skater dresses to their skate style. Like if you were to put a sweat suit on Dylan Reider, would they still be as hyped on the way he skates? Kids are impressionable, so we get influenced to wear something or learn a trick because of a pro, but it seems like today there are more kids that all-around try to emulate the way someone skates entirely, both with clothes and full trick selections.

I learned switch hardflips a certain way because of Kareem Campbell.

Not only is Gorecki extremely talented, but he seems to have the Midas touch as well. Talk about growing up in Philly; how did you first discover skating? I grew up in a small town seventeen miles northwest of Philly. My town had a local skate shop and when I was super young I would see older dudes skate around the neighborhood. That was the initial point of interest for me.

As I got older, I was lucky because there was such a big skateboarding push in Philadelphia. That scene was so close to me, and those were the guys that were obviously the most influential. Early on, after football or baseball tournaments, my mom would just drive me downtown and park at Love Park. I would just skate until we got kicked out. Eventually my buddies and I would hop on the train to Love—it was only a twenty or thirty minute ride.

Being around that scene was crazy—there were a lot of New Yorkers and guys from Jersey coming down and a handful of guys were coming up from Philadelphia. I was in the right place at the right time.

How did riding for his brand Aesthetics go down? From hanging at Love, I became really close with Kevin Taylor. He was like my mentor. Kevin told Sal and Clyde Singleton about me. I was a freshman in college, so this was like the summer of At the time, Aesthetics was a really good, small company.

So, I kind of worked on it a little bit. I'm sure Pharrell will have something that hits home like that for me. Pharrell and the skate team manager, Nino Scalia, changed my life. Of all of the accolades in P's incredible career, the skate program has a special place. It wasn't until I was in the thick of things that I realized how big it all was.

It's been 17 years since the skate film came out, and 15 since the program ended—it still has such a special place in the history of the skate, fashion and music culture. I think I knew it was time to start my brand when I realized I still had a strong passion to get the things and ideas that were important to me out in the form of products.

I thought designs and collaborations filled voids in terms of where my head and jimmy gorecki biography have been over the last plus years. As a skater, you have to be as resourceful as possible. With that, you can't care what anyone thinks or says. Beyond that it's just the hardest of these types of art forms. That's what's always drawn the different cultures that are enamored with skating—from the biggest footwear manufacturers to large fashion houses.

The process. If someone is not working hard on their skateboard and they're in a position where there may be a lot of eyeballs on them, the skate community can tell. The same goes for design.

Jimmy gorecki biography: Philly born and bred. Whether skating

You see a shoe like one from Hender Schemeand the time, quality and craftsmanship that went into it is crystal clear. Even something like the couple that does the brand Who Decides War —you look at those pieces and see how intricate they are. The process is where you can see if someone has dedicated themselves. Great question. Different albums reflect different periods of my life and my love for skateboarding.

As an amateur in the early s, the Philadelphia local counted Ice Cream, Zoo York, and the cult board brand Aesthetics among his sponsors. It was through this experience that he gleaned insights that would inform his next act. Armed with a marketing degree from Temple University, he moved into television, consulting, and, ultimately, fashion.

So what does this run mean to Gorecki? Here, he breaks down what he learned from skateboarding and its community, how he applied it to his business, and the financial lessons he took from it all. Then I started bussing tables, and later anything from dollar stores to gas stations.
