Hilda's Collegiate School, she won the national schools' Play It Strange competition for performing a song she wrote, "Blue Butterfly". At the age of sixteen, she won the Smokefreerockquest Female Musician Award. At the age of seventeen, she moved from Southland to Auckland to pursue her career as a musician. Before the age of nineteen this Southland girl had already been mentored by many of New Zealand's top producers, opened for Kelly Clarkson and The Script before eighteen, at seventeen honed her songwriting skills on a U.

Annah says that her songs are a mix of personal experiences and stories told from the perspectives of close friends - a sentiment that is clearly reflected in the lyrics of her debut album, ''Little Stranger''. Current single ''Celia'' is an upbeat fun song, originally written for a high-school friend.
